Franklins Wins Gold and Silver Awards in National 2005 Conservatory Design Competition

Franklins has swept the board in the Glassex Conservatory Design Competition. We picked up Gold and Silver awards in the Conventional Domestic category and Gold and Bronze in the Portal Frame category. The competition is the UK's largest and most prestigious conservatory design competition. Short listed from entries from all over the UK and Europe, we became the most successful entrant ever dominating the Conventional Domestic and Portal Frame categories with four conservatory installations.

The Gold winning conservatory in the Portal category was a large L shaped extension for a barn conversion near Wigan. We received the Gold award in the Conventional Domestic category for a large Orangery style extension to a Grade 2 listed home in the grounds of Harewood House. In both extensions we created a conservatory design which was complimented and blended perfectly with the age and style of the existing property.

David Franklin, our sales director, said: "We are absolutely delighted with the awards which recognise the great projects we have produced in the past year. We always aim to offer our customers the best conservatory systems and use Ultraframe products to ensure high quality, innovative design solutions."

Vanda Murray OBE, Managing Director of Ultraframe said: "The Glassex Conservatory Design Competition is a celebration of excellence within our industry and the quality of this year's designs has been outstanding. The competition is an incredibly positive initiative for the industry. It is a great measure of talent and the winning designs are truly inspiring."

Glassex Event Manager, Stephen Redman, was also highly impressed with this year's entries, he commented: "We were delighted by the number of entries submitted this year and the consistently high standard that was evident across all the categories. The winners have constructed some interesting, high quality installations which thoroughly deserve recognition. Their innovative winning designs were displayed at Glassex at the NEC in Birmingham and were well received by both visitors and press at the event."

The judging of the Conservatory Design Competition took place in February and results were announced in March 2005. Designs gained credit for innovative use of light, space and design, as well as, technical installation and aesthetic features. Entries were awarded Gold, Silver, Bronze and Merit in four different categories - Innovative Design, Conventional Commercial, Conventional Domestic and Portals.
